Our Big Heart Garden produces seasonal, organic produce for our neighbors in need through the Interfaith Food Pantry. Gardener Sue Vincent, together with a group of local youth and other volunteers, plant, maintain and harvest tomatoes, squash, beans, peppers, lettuce and other greens, along with tending our five fruit trees growing in the 70 foot square plot of land behind the Wellness Center.
We welcome Wellness Center guests to volunteer in our garden — weeding, planting, watering, harvesting. We also are open to suggestions about produce you would like to see us plant: do you have favorite or cultural vegetables? Talk to one of our food pantry or garden volunteers.
To volunteer in the garden, or to donate seedlings, soil or good quality mulch, please contact Sue Vincent. We are also registered with Project 20 & 22 Court Fee diversion programs, so if you need volunteer hours to pay a traffic fine, you can work in our garden!
We are partners with Fertile Groundworks, whose lead gardener, Bruce Campbell, heads up the Garden of Grace at Asbury United Methodist Church. If you know of any other businesses or gardeners who you think might like to partner with us in supporting the health of our community, please let us know.
